We are celebrating our 5 years of existence this year. It has been an exciting journey from two people brainstorming an idea, to a strong team today panning across many states in India – from Assam to Tamil Nadu. We also completed one year of Kiva partnership, which has helped us to reach out to many states across the country, like Jharkhand and West Bengal. This quarter, we participated in the Development Dialogue at Deshpande Foundation. “Scaling by proving” saw many stalwarts in attendance, from Noble laureate Kailash Satyarthi to Narayan Murthy (Infosys), among others. I was a keynote speaker in the panel discussion “Investing in Inclusion”. MicroGraam was part of the Construkt Festival 2015, India’s biggest start up festival. Budding entrepreneurs visited our office and interacted with the team to understand our model and nature of work.
Macro Impact - YOU can transform a Life
Yousuf Ali hails from a family of artisans from the town of Channapatna in Karnataka, famous for its wooden toys. They make home décor, crafts and toys from the traditional method of lac turnery. Yousuf’s costs had become quite high as he needs power to run the lathe machones. Due to frequent power cuts, he had to rent a generator to continue his production. MicroGraam funded him an amount of INR 1,00,000. This has helped his business to grow. He invested INR 50,000 in a generator and used the balance in buying raw material in bulk. This has turned around his profits. He is today in a position where he can aspire for bigger achievements. He plans to hire and train women and looks forward to keep this beautiful hand craft alive.
